Jay McDonald, MD, MPH

Dr. Jay McDonald is a board-certified physician in both Anesthesiology and Pain Management. He treats all types of pain through a multidisciplinary approach using nerve blocks and minimally invasive surgical techniques, medications, physical therapy, and behavioral methods. After several years in private practice in Jackson, MS, he welcomes the opportunity to move back home to Memphis and join Semmes Murphey. Dr. McDonald graduated from Memphis University School and earned a Bachelor of Science at the University of Georgia, majoring in both biology and psychology. He served at the Church Health Center before moving to New Orleans to complete a Master’s in Public Health at Tulane University and a Medical Doctorate at the Tulane University School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Anesthesiology, where he was elected chief resident and named resident of the year. Following residency, Dr. McDonald completed a fellowship in Pain Management at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Dr. McDonald's focus areas include low back, neck, joint, and cancer pain. He also specializes in headaches and spinal cord stimulators.

He lives in Memphis with his wife and two young boys.
