Memphis Magazine: Dr. Inoa discusses stroke intervention and her calling to medicine
Dr. Violiza Inoa of Semmes Murphey Clinic interviewed with Memphis Magazine to discuss her career and the motivators behind her success.
Dr. Violiza Inoa sat down with Memphis Magazine to discuss her journey to provide early intervention for stroke patients. Specializing in vascular neurology and neurointervention, she found her calling to serve the Memphis region, which falls in the center of the country’s “stroke belt.” She also discussed her early exposure to hospitals and the world of medicine in her home country of the Dominican Republic, where her father practices anesthesia. It was natural that she would follow in his footsteps and give back to her community through medicine.
“I always felt that I lived in a country where I needed to give back to the community, and I felt that medicine would be a very good way of doing that,” she explained when interviewing with Chris McCoy.
Today, as a wife, mother, educator, researcher and surgeon, Dr. Inoa hopes she can serve as an example to her two young daughters that women physicians can balance their passions for family and career and equally thrive in both.
