Shanker, Shree at Semmes Murphey Clinic

Sreenath Shanker

Sreenath (Shree) Shanker received his PhD from Delhi University in India and moved to the United States in 2001 to pursue his postdoctoral studies. His research interests led him to study cancer biology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX as a post-doctoral fellow. He subsequently joined St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN as a research specialist in 2007. His research at St. Jude focused on the development and epigenetics of cancer, and he published more than 15 research articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals on those subjects.

After spending more than a decade in the laboratory as a molecular biologist, Shree decided to transition from the bench to the bedside and pursued a career in patient care. In 2013, Shree entered the Physician Assistant program at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, TN to study medicine. Upon completing the program, he joined Semmes-Murphey Clinic as a Physician Assistant in Neurosurgery.

Shree lives in Germantown with his wife Vani, who works as a scientific editor at St. Jude, as well as his daughter Asavari and son Upamanyu. He loves photography, hiking, and reading, and spends most of his time off duty with his family and friends.
