Semmes Murphey Physicians Present at “Brain Waves to Heart Beats” Cardiac & Stroke Symposium

On February 27, 2026, healthcare professionals from across the Mid-South gathered at Baptist Memorial Hospital for the Baptist Cardiac and Stroke Symposium, a continuing medical education event focused on advances in stroke and cardiovascular care.

Two Semmes Murphey physicians were among the invited speakers. Dr. Violiza Inoa and Dr. Christopher Nickele shared insights with an audience of physicians, nurses, residents, EMTs, and other healthcare professionals, highlighting new findings and emerging approaches in advanced stroke, neurological, and cardiovascular care.

Dr. Christopher Nickele: Emerging Approaches to Brain Hemorrhage

Later in the program, Dr. Christopher Nickele presented on innovative approaches to treating intracerebral hemorrhage, a severe form of stroke caused by bleeding in the brain.

Dr. Nickele reviewed how advances in surgical techniques and medical technology are helping neurosurgeons treat these cases more effectively while minimizing the invasiveness of procedures. His presentation emphasized how improvements in treatment strategies and care coordination can improve outcomes for patients facing some of the most challenging neurological emergencies.

A Strong Medical Community Working Together

The symposium brought together experts from across disciplines to explore the close relationship between heart and brain health.

Presenters included specialists in cardiology, vascular medicine, and neurology who shared insights on topics ranging from cardiac disease and stroke prevention to emerging treatments and coordinated emergency care. Throughout the day, speakers emphasized the importance of collaboration between specialties to improve patient outcomes. Events like this highlight the strength of Memphis’ medical community.
