Semmes Murphey Neurosurgeons Lead at the 2025 Joint Pediatric Section Annual Meeting
Last week, specialists from across the country gathered in Memphis for the 2025 Joint Pediatric Section Annual Meeting on Pediatric Neurological Surgery led by Drs. Paul Klimo and Nir Shimony. The event, held at The Peabody Hotel, is recognized as one of the leading national forums for pediatric neurosurgery and is supported by the AANS/CNS Section on Pediatric Neurological Surgery. The meeting brings together pediatric neurosurgeons, researchers, and trainees to collaborate, exchange research, and advance care for children with neurological conditions.
The conference highlighted a wide range of important topics, including contributions from Semmes Murphey physicians. Dr. Stephanie Einhaus led a poignant session on women in neurosurgery, while Dr. Nir Shimony led a session for Advanced Practice Providers on brain tumors.
Bringing Memphis Culture and Community into the Conversation
In addition to the scientific sessions, the meeting featured several notable speakers whose work reflects the history, culture, and community of Memphis. Former Memphis Mayor AC Wharton spoke on leadership, justice, and community empowerment. Grammy Award-winning producer Boo Mitchell shared stories from the legendary Royal Studios and the Memphis sound, adding a creative and cultural dimension to the weekend. Dr. Austin Dalgo of Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital offered insight into palliative care, health equity, and compassionate medicine.
Their contributions added depth and local character to the meeting, grounding the scientific programming in the broader values of community, creativity, and service that define Memphis.
