Dr. Kraus shares insight on interventional pain management to combat opioid abuse

Opioid abuse remains among the top leading causes of death in our country. In Shelby County alone, the health department reported over 1,000 suspected opioid overdoses so far this year.

In anticipation of National Opioid Awareness Day on Sept. 21, Dr. Alan Kraus met with WREG News Channel 3 to discuss how pain management is a safer approach to addressing pain without resorting to prescription opioids and potential abuse down the road. As an interventional pain management physician, he works with patients to use non-invasive procedures to combat and reduce pain.

Watch the full interview as Dr. Kraus shares how physicians, including Semmes Murphey providers, monitor patients’ prescription intakes and watch for signs of potential opioid abuse.
