Benjamin W. Carroll
Dr. Benjamin (Ben) Wesley Carroll is a functional neurosurgeon at Semmes Murphey, specializing in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery. He recently completed his fellowship at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus, where he trained in advanced techniques for the surgical management of movement disorders, epilepsy, craniofacial pain, and other complex neurological conditions.
A Mississippi native, Dr. Carroll earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) School of Medicine in 2017 and completed his neurological surgery residency there in 2024. He also holds a Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School and is a proud Rhodes College alumnus, having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and a minor in Philosophy.
Throughout his training, Dr. Carroll has been known for compassionate patient care, committed relationality with both patients and colleagues, and meticulous attention to detail in the pursuit of excellence. These values have their foundation in his Christian faith, and he is engaged in how the life of faith manifests itself in the work of neurosurgery.
Dr. Carroll’s research focuses on functional neurosurgery and neurosurgical outcomes, particularly for Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia, epilepsy, and trigeminal neuralgia.
He is an active member of the Association Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
Before entering the medical field, Dr. Carroll worked as a Methodist pastor, a whitewater rafting and backpacking guide, and a high school mathematics teacher. He enjoys being outdoors, reading novels and theology, and raising two daughters with his wonderful wife.
