QOD- Superior spine care, driven by data
Discover a better path to long-term recovery and a higher quality of life with us. Our 10-year participation in an unbiased independent study measures our patients' outcomes beyond short-term recovery. Join us for effective surgical procedures that deliver results that last.
The Quality Outcomes Database (QOD) is an independent study conducted by the Neuropoint Alliance (NPA), a non-profit organization backed by six of America's leading neurological societies. Semmes Murphey Clinic is proud to be one of the leading contributors and pioneers of the QOD. In the study, over 100 healthcare organizations measure the quality and efficacy of surgical spine procedures. Not only are the techniques, procedures, and technology employed by the surgeons investigated, but patients' pain relief and lifestyle changes are also carefully studied by researchers.
Physicians who elect to participate in the study demonstrate their unwavering commitment to the highest quality of medicine and patient care.
For a decade, Semmes Murphey Clinic has studied the long-term effects of our surgical procedures, not in a sterile clinical setting, but in our patients' daily lives. Our patients can be confident that we operate on living, breathing data from the real world. By studying improvements in range of motion, pain relief, and even feelings of overall quality of life, we gain a deeper understanding of our patients' experiences. This information is used to improve our techniques each year and provide the best possible care to everyone who trusts us with their spine surgery.
Surgeons make decisions based on their best estimate of potential risks and outcomes of a procedure. They reference a combination of education, personal experience, data from selected trials, medical research, and literature. Within the QOD framework, we can also reference the most up-to-date data specifically relevant to spine procedures.
The provision of such data also empowers patients to make informed decisions regarding their medical care. Patients can weigh the relative merits of different healthcare options based on their individual circumstances, medical conditions, and personal preferences.
