Semmes-Murphey physicians are active in new research, gene therapy, drug studies and development of new techniques for neuro-oncology and cerebrovascular diseases. Our pediatric neurosurgeons play key roles in one of the largest pediatric brain tumor services in the world at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Each surgeon works closely with oncologists, neurologists and other specialists to deliver treatment to children with brain tumors. Many of our surgeons are involved in clinical studies which evaluate new ways of managing different types of brain tumors.

Semmes-Murphey founded, along with other area hospitals, the Medical Education and Research Institute (MERI). MERI is a not-for-profit teaching and research facility which serves as a preferred teaching site for the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
